What is this leaflet about?
You have had a third- or fourth-degree perineal tear during childbirth. This is also known as an obstetric anal sphincter injury (OASI). This leaflet will explain what this type of injury is, how to care for your injury, why it is important to make sure your bowel and bladder are working well, why and how to do pelvic floor exercises, and what follow-up appointments you will have in the next 12 weeks.
