Subfertility semen analysis: how to book an appointment
Instructions for patients who are undergoing fertility testing and need to book an appointment for semen analysis
Andrology Department, William Harvey Hospital, Ashford
Telephone: 01233 616145 or 01233 616821
Why have I been asked to produce a sample?
You have been asked to produce a semen sample as part of your fertility investigations. Please read this information carefully, as it explains what you need to do.
What do I do now?
Your doctor should have given you a Cellular Pathology request form with this information sheet. If you do not have that request form we cannot book your appointment. If you do not have a Cellular Pathology request form, please ask your doctor to provide you with one.
If you have your Cellular Pathology request form, please call our Andrology Department booking line on 01233 616145. We will explain the process to you, and your options for sample production.
After you book your appointment we will send you an instruction pack and an information sheet.
What are the laboratory opening times?
The Andrology Department is open Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm. We book appointments between these times.
Please do not attend unless you have an appointment booked. We do not accept walk-ins.
Where and how do I produce my sample?
Most patients produce their sample at home, and bring the sample with them to the hospital. We have limited on-site facilities, for patients who are eligible, to produce their sample at the hospital. We will explain this to you when you book your appointment.
Samples must be produced by masturbation into the sample pot that we will give you.
If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them for you when you book your appointment.
